Well, its been a while since I've had anything new to add, but I really do like Memphis Minnie's BBQ in San Francisco (576 Haight St. @ Steiner--415.864.PORK) . As you all know, my feelings about Bay Area barbeque are none too forgiving, but Memphis Minnie's does it right. A wide variety of styles and meats, including some terrific dry rubbed beef ribs. Good sides include some zingy coleslaw and purty good beans. An absolutely killer jukebox only adds to the pleasure. My only gripe is that you've gotta ask for lemon for the iced tea and they put whipped cream instead of merangue on the banana puddin', but I'll live. This is certainly Frisco's best cue, and probably the best in the Bay.

I came across some damn good ribs at Kasey's Texas Style Bar-B-Q in Bend, Oregon. Located at 304 SE 3rd (Hwy.97) they do a regular menu and a $7.95 all-you-can-eat buffet during the week. Good cue, cold beer, and some of the vilest looking desserts this side of the army. But you go for the meat, and the meat is good. The brisket is lean and tender and the beef ribs are amazing. Spicy, smoky and salty. I'm getin' wet just thinking about it.

There's barbeque and there's Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City, MO. If you are ever within two days drive of KC, and you fancy yourself an enjoyer of Q, get your big ass over to Arthur Bryants. I was there five or six years ago, ate myself into bad health, and have spent the rest of my life wishing I could go back. Still have a big bottle of sauce in my pantry that I'm afraid to use, but I'll be damned if I'll throw it out.

Sticky Fingers in Charleston, South Carolina (235 Meeting St. --843.853.RIBS) is famous for being one of the best joints in the world. Granted, its now a small chain around the south, and certainly falls into the category of what Bones D'Ivory calls "white folks' barbeque", but it's damn good. Mrs. Barlow and the rest of my barbeque-freak family swear it is the best they've ever had. Mrs.B still swoons over the Memphis dry rib she scarfed. My mom, sister and nephews can't get enough of their St. Louis-style pork. All I could do was eat my damn chicken and grumble. It was good, but them ribs looked like heaven.

Smitty's Barbeque in Panama City, Florida is really, really good. Or, at least it was the last few times I've eaten there back in the 80's. Reports from my family members confirm that it still rocks with good meats smoked long and slow, plenty of great sides, and some killer sauces. Smitty (no relation, I swear) used to fly for Air America back in Nam/Cambodia/Laos, and the collection of model airplanes and military decor can be a little unsettling. I'm telling ya, this guy's cue is so good you'll cross over any politcal/philosophical fences you may have. I know I did. >>ALERT! their website says they're under new management, and that is NEVER a good sign. BEWARE!<<

Blues musicians are just folks like us when it comes to barbeque, having their favorites and what not. Here's a couple for ya, courtesy of folks I've interviewed on the show.

Duke Robillard : The Rendezvous, or any place in Memphis.

Henry Butler : Oklahoma City. What's the name of that place? Hmm. I can't remember but the chicken was the best I've ever had. Memphis has some good barbaque, too.

F.C.C. Chairman Bill Kennard: Arthur Bryant's, Kansas City.

R. J. Mischo: Everett & Jones, Berkeley, CA and Angelo's Texas BBQ, Ft. Worth.

Eric Sardinas : Pitts in Kansas City for pork ribs and cornbread or, in Clarksdale, Mississippi go to a bar downtown called called Red's and ask for Ruby. Ruby makes barbeque in his backyard that's the most intense stuff I've ever had.

Mem Shannon: Partners on Felicity Street, New Orleans

Ms. Faye Carol: "Daddy's House, but I like to go to K.C's over there on San Pablo in Berkeley. And the Flint's downtown (Oakland)"

Mark Hummel: Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City.

Eddie Shaw: Barbeque Kingdom in Antwerp Belgium, The Grand Emporium in Kansas City, but when I'm home its Leon Friendly's in Chicago.

Tab Benoit: "Memphis, Kansas City, but Texarkana's probably the best. They got a good, dry rib."

Joey Spampinato of NRBQ: "I don't eat barbeque. Oh! I know! There's a place in Seattle called the Gravity Bar and on their Tempeh Burgers they put barbeque sauce."

Freddie Roulette: "I don't know about barbeque, but I love the chickens they do in those little corner stores in Chicago".

Roy Roberts: Smokey's BBQ, Winston-Salem, NC

Tommy Castro: The Rendezvous, Memphis, TN, "or in the Bay Area, Everett & Jones, but Leon's out in the Sunset's pretty good, too".

E.C. Scott: "My Balcony"

Kenny Blue Ray: "I haven't eaten meat in years, but if I gotta choose, I'd say Texas"

The Rossi Brothers: Mike: Armadillo Willie's, Cupertino, CA Angelo: Goldie's, East Palo Alto, CA.
