Some other projects I've been a part of SENECA FALLS is a documentary film written, produced and directed by my amazing wife, Louise Vance. Important, entertaining and something everyone needs to see. THE ALLEY PAT PROJECT is a combination film project and tribute page about an amazing disc jockey, media personality, and activist in Atlanta, Georgia. The film is a collaboration with editor/director Tom Roche. Blues radio From 1995 til 2003 I was the voice of blues jockey Smitty Ray Barlow. Beginning at a cable FM station in San Geronimo, California and later at Stanford's KZSU, I played the records, interviewd the artists and generally emulated my hero, Alley Pat. Smitty may return to the airwaves someday, but for now he enjoys his sabbatical, meticulously filing and re-filing his modest collection of records. Smitty was also a contributor to the website Retro.com and was prominently featured in this article about The Fieldstones by G.E. Light. In 2003, I served as consultant for Putamayo Records on an as yet unreleased collection of Southern Soul music. One result of this project was the inclusion of Bay Area legend Sugarpie Desanto on the labels "American Blues" compilation. Voice work In addition, to my radio high-jinks, I've occasionally provided voice talent to film and video projects. I was a voice of a translator in Turner Broadcastings documentary "Iran: Behind The Veil" way back in the eighties, and more recently was used in a video celebrating the 150 year history of Levi Strauss & Co. |
