Listen to Pat!
Tom Roche has boxes full of cassette recordings of Pat on the radio. In research for the film project, he began transferring some to digital formats. These clips are from the 1980's and came from the first handful of tapes. Though they're hardly the "best" of Alley Pat, they're pretty funny and if you can imagine a few songs by Little Milton, Esther Phillips, Denise LaSalle, and Bobby Bland, you can get a taste of what his shows were like.
Meaty Savings A supermarket ad gets interrupted by someobdy on the phone and somebody else at the door.
Mean Deacons beginning with a pre-recorded spot for a Florist (with some truly bizarre background music), Pat launches into a rap about preachers and deacons.
Hollywood Players Lounge Pat converses with himself in this spot.
Flower Shop A Valentine's Day ad for a florist turns into a health warning for plus-size ladies.
Julian's Men's Shop has Pat running down the inventory of 1980's fashion for men.

NEW! Pat introduces Ray Charles! Recorded live at the May 28, 1959 5th anniversary WAOK concert (R&B) held at Herndon Stadium in Atlanta. The first voice on the tape is Zenas "Daddy" Sears, then Byron Wilson brings on Pat for the remainder of the cut. Pat introduces Ray Charles with a bit of a story about his music.
This was 1959 and Ray was just beginning to perform in the style that became
soul. A point of interest is that WAOK recorded both nights of the concert
on a monoral reel to reel recorder with a single mike placed between the main
stage speakers. The recording of Ray Charles' performances became the historic
Atlantic Records release album "Ray Charles in Concert" which contained
the original of "What'd I Say", "I Got a Woman", "Tell
the Truth", and more, all recorded at this single event It also is considered
to be the album that propelled Ray into a much larger national audience and
acceptance. We
don't know if Pat even realizes that he introduced this little piece of history.
